PCWorld.com has posted an article listing 101 indespensible freeware applications. Title 101 Fabulous Freebies, the article lists what they describe as “the best free software and services you can find.” I found many of the applications I use listed and there’s even a section on blogging tools.
Pianographique is an interesting shockwave flash site that allows you to assign sounds and animations to each key of the keyboard. Once they keyboard has been mapped, you can create and record symphonies of sound and graphics by pressing or holding the keys. The interface is a little cryptic at first and requires you to map every key before you can begin your composition, but once you get the hang of it, the results can be impressive. You can also view symphonies that other users have recorded and posted for sharing.
Google continues to expard its mapping software by expanding into space.
To explore Eath’s moon, including the locations of Apollo landings, use Google Moon:
To explore planet Mars, including identifiable features, use Google Mars:
(FYI - http://mars.google.com also works. Although this link will redirect you to the correct URL, it’s consistent with maps.google.com and moon.google.com, so I think it’s easier to remember)
