In 2004, Rich Vogel began a side project on his web site, 10Eastern.com, a site for musicians and bands in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. While browsing for music on a file sharing service, Rich had accidentally stumbled upon a folder containing photographic images. Intrigued by the voyeuristic appeal of what he had found, Rich continued to look for more image files shared purposely or even accidentally on that and similar services. He eventually posted a selection of those he found to be interesting and thus Foundphotos was born.
The site has grown substantially since its inception and contains thousands of photographs ranging from the fascinating to the mundane, some of which have been categorized into galleries. It’s one of my favorite web sites and I check in with it regularly.

"To the complaint, ‘There are no people in these photographs,’ I respond, ‘There are always two people: the photographer and the viewer.’”
